What will happen to the winning written and video essay submissions?

The ownership of any submission remains the property of the writer or creator. Still, entry into this opportunity constitutes the entrant’s permission and consent, without compensation, with or without attribution, for the Canadian Nuclear Association to use, reproduce, transmit, post, distribute, adapt, edit, and/or display the submission.

When will the winners be notified?

The winners will be notified by the third week of February 2025. Students not selected will still be eligible to register at the regular student rate of $400 CAD.

Are there other selection criteria?

Yes. The CNA team will submit a list of contest finalists to the Deans and Administrators of your academic institution to confirm your eligibility to attend. Your school may elect to restrict you from attending if you are not a student in good standing or for any other reason, they deem important.

How are essay submissions evaluated?

Your written or video essays will be evaluated by an internal committee of CNA staff, who will be looking for sound ideas and innovative responses. Each submission will be judged based on the following factors:

  • Originality/ Creativity
  • Effectiveness in responding to the prompt
  • Clarity and concision
  • Moving/ Impactful
  • Passion and Presentation
  • Following the rules

We also love passion for the industry and the future of nuclear technology, a dash of personality and the basics of good presentation and writing skills.

To submit your application, visit our CNA2025 Student Program webpage, complete the registration form and upload your written or video essay. If you submit a video essay, please upload your video to YouTube and set the visibility to “unlisted” so that the CNA team can access it. Include the YouTube link in your application form. Instructions on uploading your video can be found here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/57407.

What are the submission guidelines for the written or video essay?

  • Written essays must be 300 – 500 words in length, and video essays must be between 1 to 2 minutes. Submissions that do not meet or exceed this requirement will receive deductions in points.
